Are the Seven Wonders of the World Copyright Protected?

(The "New Seven Wonders," that is.)

Apparently, India is up in arms after it discovered a life-size copy of the Taj Mahal under construction in Sonargaon, Bangladesh -- sponsored by a wealthy Bangladeshi film director. Seems like a fair point.

My favorite quote of the day from the spokesperson at the Indian High Commission in Dhaka: "You can't just go and copy historical monuments."

Or can you?
