Eyes on the Prize

horseracing.jpgI can feel it. I'm getting close. I'd peg progress toward a full draft of my collection at around 85% right now. Of the 11 stories, six are complete, three need light to moderate rewrites, one needs more serious restructuring, and one has yet to be written (though how it's been lurking in my mind).

I hadn't been planning it, but a few weeks ago I decided I needed a harder deadline for myself. So I applied to return to Squaw at the beginning of August. I figured I'd shoot to have a full draft of the collection available in time to bring with me on the off-chance that I meet any, you know, friendly agents or editors. Having a full draft by August 1 felt ambitious a few weeks ago. Now it's seeming really ambitious. It's these damn kids I tell you. And the job. How's a guy supposed to get any writing done around here?
