Blues Traveler

There's been a certain chaos to this summer. Feels like I've barely had time to breathe between trips. I just returned from Squaw last weekend, and here I am leaving for a 10-day work trip to Sri Lanka today.

I'm a bit of a type A sort of guy. There, I've said it. I tend to plan these trips very methodically. So, when a United rep calls me on my cell less than five minutes before a shuttle is scheduled to pick me up to whisk me to the San Francisco airport (from where I'll fly to Tokyo, then Bangkok, then Colombo) and tells me that the first flight is delayed by 2 1/2 hours, and so I'll be missing all of my connections and arrive in Sri Lanka almost a full day late, my tendency is to get a little annoyed.

I know I know. I'll get there eventually. All in good time. Enjoy your weekends, kay?

Would you feel better thinking that arriving safe, rather than the arrival time, is what's really important?

It wouldn't comfort me, either. So I'll just say, Enjoy the trip!

There's always one--a pragmatist who comes along and deflates all your arguments for why you have every right to be frustrated and angry at the world. Hee hee. Okay, yes, yes, you make a good point, Michelle.

And greetings from the lovely Singapore airport (where I stayed for 6 hours last night in a "budget" transit hotel room with "shared toilet" -- to be more accurate, the one toilet would have been shared with all 25 similar rooms, except that it was bolted shut with a sign that said "Not working--please pardon us if this is inconvenient" ;)

And now I really will stop griping... :)
