Nowhere to Run....
Friday, August 28, 2009 You'd think that driving six-plus hours due east from the Bay Area past some of the tallest mountains in North America and into the desert-like conditions of the Eastern Sierra would leave you many miles from anything resembling civilization. But last week in the tiny town of June Lake, as my five-year-old "navigated" our little boat in all sorts of unintended directions, I was certain I'd spotted the writer Andrew Tonkovich, editor of Santa Monica Review, waist-deep in the water, casting a fly rod (apparently without much success), along with his son and spouse, writer Lisa Alvarez, who co-directs the Squaw Valley Community of Writers.
When we finally docked, sure enough, we found them all on-shore. It was great to catch up after a couple of years. But just goes to show, there's truly nowhere to hide these days.
